Engagement Party

Okay, a more upbeat post:)

My best and oldest friend in the whole wide world is getting married to an amazing guy... and... she asked me to be her Maid of Honor! I was soo excited. I've been hoping she would post a blog about the amazing proposal so I could link to it, but she hasn't yet. Anyways, I feel guilty being her Maid of Honor because she is moving to NY in a few months so I really won't be able to be much help to her and throw bridal showers and all that stuff that MOHs do.

Instead I am having an engagement party for her and Tom ("Tina and Tom," isn't that adorable?) the end of this month. Here are my idea's so far:

The theme is going to be apple green, white, and chocolate brown. It will be a bbq outside.
I am going to hang paper lanterns:

And make these pom poms (found on homemadebyjill and Martha Stewart)
Here is the tutorial from

How to Make the Pom-Poms

You'll need tissue paper and 24-gauge white cloth-covered floral wire.

Hanging Pom-Poms

1. Stack eight 20-by-30-inch sheets of tissue. Make 1 1/2-inchwide accordion folds, creasing with each fold.

2. Fold an 18-inch piece of floral wire in half, and slip over center of folded tissue; twist. With scissors, trim ends of tissue into rounded or pointy shapes.

3. Separate layers, pulling away from center one at a time.

4. Tie a length of monofilament to floral wire for hanging.

And napkin rings too!

Napkin Rings

With just a few changes, these follow the same steps as the hanging pom-poms.

1. Stack four sheets of tissue. Cut a 10-by-5-inch rectangle, going through all layers. Make 3/8-inch-wide accordion folds.

2. Fold an 18-inch piece of floral wire in half, slip over center of tissue, and twist to secure. Trim ends of tissue.

3. Separate layers, pulling away from center one at a time.

4. Bend wire into a loop to fit around napkin, and twist end around loop to secure.

Then I found 5 of these cutties at Ikea and will put them on the food table:
I'll decorate the deck with this kind of fluff:

And the Tables will be sort of like this:
Only with green table cloths and a brown bandanna in the middle:

I want to just do a simple center piece, something like this:
Except with Gerbera daisies which are her favorite:

tied with:
Now on to the yummy part! Tina loved the make your own burger thing we did for my b-day, so we will have a build-your-own-burger-bar:

With some fruit of course:

Okay, now the part I'm most excited about! The cake!!!

Flo posted this blog about a cake she made for her daughter that I am going to try. In between the layers are sweet whipped cream and sliced strawberries. iiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii know!!!

Depending on the number of guests, I might make cupcakes also. Probably in chocolate with a chocolate icing, or a white chocolate tinted green:

Other than that just some beer and bocce ball. I can't wait!
I'll post pictures of how it comes out!
